Confession time: I guess on some level, I thought that 18th century artists were just . . . bad at painting hair. It always looks so frizzy and fuzzy!
Turns out that’s actually how it looked after pomatum, powder and frizzing, the style and hair care of the time. After studying fashion from the 1770s, now I think 18th century gowns look silly without big hair!
